This World Emoji Day, and in celebration of JoyPixels' 10 year anniversary, we are proud to announce the release of our newest signature emoji set - JoyPixels 9.0! The addition of 118 new emoji to Unicode 15.1 brings the total emoji count in JoyPixels 9.0 to an impressive 3,820 emoji, with 662 pre-existing emoji receiving updates.
Style updates were made throughout our collection, including significant developments in the Flag, Food, Object, and Symbol categories, as well as the addition of a directional modifier to many in the People category. JoyPixels 9.0 is now available for immediate licensing.
New For Unicode 15.1
All 118 emoji introduced in Unicode 15.1 are included in JoyPixels 9.0. The majority of these new emoji feature a "Right" directional modifier for Person/Woman/Man in all Diversities Running, Walking, Kneeling, In Motorized Wheelchair, In Manual Wheelchair, and With White Cane. Additionally, we see the much anticipated launch of the Lime, Phoenix, and Brown Mushroom emoji. And two new Smileys join the family: Head Shaking Horizontally and Head Shaking Vertically.
Object Emoji Updates
The Object emoji category sees significant updates in JoyPixels 9.0. Notably, the Microbe 🦠 loses its Covid-19 stylings and returns to a more typical bacterium appearance (as it had pre-2021). The batteries no longer feature the JoyPixels logo for greater commerciality. The other 74 updated emoji, like the Mirror Ball 🪩, Crystal Ball 🔮, Radio 📻, and Toothbrush 🪥 offer the greater dimension that is the signature of JoyPixels 9.0.
Food Emoji Updates
Updates to the Food emoji category are always some of our most popular changes and this year's redesigns certainly deliver! Our Mango 🥭 has never looked juicier, our Baguette Bread 🥖 has never looked fresher, and the Tropical Drink 🍹 has us ready to pack our bags for the tropics as we speak. The goal was authenticity and attention to detail and the results are evident.
People Emoji Updates
In addition to the introduction of directional People emoji, we've gone back to the drawing board on several other designs within the category. The Backpack 🎒 and Handbag 👜 emoji receive entirely new looks and the Alien 👽 and Robot 🤖 take coolness to a new level.
Flag Emoji Updates
All flag emoji in JoyPixels 9.0 received a massive redesign, moving away from the circular shape to the more accurate rectangle. This change allows for greater versatility, as well as cross-vendor compatibility.
Symbol Emoji Updates
Similar to the Flag emoji redesigns, the majority of the Symbol emoji also were redrawn in the familiar button-style. The colors remain the same but the shapes have changed throughout.
Miscellaneous Emoji Updates
Only a few emoji in the Nature, Activities, and Travel categories received updates in JoyPixels 9.0, as they received their complete overhauls in JoyPixels 8.0. What you will see are a handful of new designs adding depth and color to favorites like the Star ⭐ and Bubbles 🫧 emoji.
